  • Visit to the a Pataxo Village

An unique opportunity to spend the day with an authentic indigenous Pataxó tribe

In the middle of the 20th century, a good part of the ancestors of the Indians that today form the villages of the region of Porto Seguro was decimated in a great massacre, and therefore had to flee to the cities. However, 3 still adolescent girls who did not agree with the loss of indigenous culture as a result of their approach to urban centres decided to go out and create their own village where customs would be maintained and respected.

Today, this village has become the Jaqueira Reserve – a sacred place for the Pataxó people, a true oasis with 827 hectares of Atlantic Forest located 12 km from the center of Porto Seguro, where 32 families live in the traditional way, that receive visitors to enjoy moments of conviviality with this captivating people (still with the presence of the 3 girls who originated the village!), and contemplate the nature preserved and perceive the sounds of the forest.

Through a partnership with accredited agency, we offer a unique experience of living in this village where Brazil was born. Upon arrival at the village, the young Indians of the village receive guests and visitors and direct them to the place where the cacique (leader) speaks in his own language and in Portuguese about his history and his traditions – the mystical force of intimacy with nature, sounds, the sacred songs, dances and rituals (AWÊ), the prayers and symbolisms, the language (PATHXÔHÁ), the arts and the forms of expression.

The visit lasts 6 hours in total (with 1 hour of road in each direction), with total flexibility, if the guest or visitor chooses to shorten the visit (may include lunch prepared by the Indians with their local ingredients, especially fish ). There is still the option of overnight, for those who enjoy the contact with nature, the break of urban comfort and a unique experience.

It offers 4 options of experiences: Return to the Origins, Indian Day without overnight, Indian Day with overnight and the Route of the Pataxó Villages.
